US drone strike in Afghanistan: An independent review by the Pentagon, headquarters of the US Department of Defense, has found no misconduct or negligence in a US drone strike in Kabul during the final rounds that killed innocent civilians and children. Earlier, the US Department of Defense said it was committed to providing compensation to the relatives of those killed in a drone strike in August in Kabul, Afghanistan. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said in a statement that the Defense Department is also working with the State Department to help Afghan survivors brought to the United States (the US invasion of Afghanistan). Kirby said that the subject came up in a meeting between Dr. Colin Call, the under secretary of defense for policy affairs, and Dr Steven Kwon, founder and president of the non-profit organization Nutrition and Education International. "Dr. Kahl reiterates Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's commitment to provide reparations to families," Kirby said.
Weeks after the attack, US Central Command Marine General Frank McKenzie called the attack a "horrible mistake" and said innocent civilians had been killed. McKenzie told reporters about the results of the investigation into the August 29 attack that those killed in the vehicle and drone strikes had no direct ties to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant-Khorasan (ISIS-K) or the US military. There is no fear of danger (US military attacks in Afghanistan). However, the attack must only be understood in the context of the ground situation at Hamid Karzai International Airport after the Islamic State attack, he said.
